THE BLIGHTED

The Blighted - Corrupted Souls

When a Wyldheart is consumed by doubt, fear, or corruption, its Thal’ithara unravels. Those affected are no longer mere wielders of magic — they become The Blighted.

The Blighted are a tragic reflection of what happens when power is misaligned with the soul. Their magic, once vibrant and unique, twists into chaos: spells that falter, energy that burns uncontrollably, and visions that warp reality.

Few dare approach them, for their presence is a warning and a danger. The Blighted are both victims and harbingers — their inner turmoil made manifest, a living testament to the destructive potential of unbalanced Thal’ithara.

“Magic is not inherently good or evil. But when the soul fractures, even the purest power can become a storm.” — Eldwyn

When Magic Falters

When doubt, fear, or greed poisons the heart, magic can become unstable, uncontrollable, or even destructive.

✔ Souls in doubt wield weak, unstable, or erratic magic.
✔Those who deny their true selves risk being overwhelmed or destroyed by their own power.
✔ Those who use magic for selfish or destructive purposes gradually lose their connection to the Wyldheart, leaving only a twisted echo of their former power.

Depending on the severity of the distortion, three dangerous phenomena can occur:

1. The Thal’ithara Becomes Unstable — Magic Out of Control

When your beliefs clash with your true essence, your magic begins to run wild:

Sudden, uncontrolled outbursts – A mage who senses they are losing control may experience spontaneous magical surges in moments of emotional weakness.
Unpredictable effects – A gift of healing may turn harmful; light magic may spawn shadows.
Energetic instability – The more a person tries to wield their magic, the more energy it drains from them, leaving them weakened or even in mortal danger.

Example: A man with the gift to make plants grow loses faith in himself. His Thal’ithara reacts — and instead of giving life, his magic begins to wither everything around him.

2. The Thal’ithara Develops Its Own Will — Unleashed Magic 🔮

When doubt, hatred, or destructive beliefs burrow too deeply into the Wyldheart, magic can begin to act independently. It no longer obeys the wielder, but the twisted truths that reside within their soul.

🕷️ The Shadow Manifestation

  • A person who despises themselves may find their magic taking form outside of them — a voice in the dark, a twisted reflection of themselves, a shadowy entity that speaks their darkest thoughts, visible only to them.

    🔥 The Eternal Hunger

  • Someone who believes strength comes from destruction may find their flames never extinguishing, burning on even when they do not will it.

    💀 The Weapon Against Oneself

  • Those who believe they are worthless may discover that their magic turns inward, striking them rather than others.

  • Example: A woman convinces herself that no one could ever love her. Over time, her magic manifests as a repulsive force — every touch inflicts pain. No matter how she tries to suppress it, she eventually realizes that her own magic is tearing her apart.

    3. When Magic Devours You…

  • The most dangerous form of twisted magic occurs when a person strays so far from their true self that their Wyldheart begins to detach, consume, or entirely transform them.

    🩸 The Parasitic Self

  • Magic demands ever more energy to sustain itself, eventually consuming its own source. The mage weakens physically and mentally, until only the magic remains.

    👁️ The Fracturing of Self

  • Those entangled in too many contradictions may experience their Wyldheart splitting into two or more distinct personalities, each wielding different forms of magic — and even fighting one another.

⚔️ The Point of No Return

  • If the Wyldheart remains corrupted too long, it may permanently sever from its original essence, leaving the person an empty shell. The Wyldheart departs, and nothing remains. Such a being becomes one of the Soulless.
